The UK fiduciary management industry saw assets under management (AUM) grow nearly 16% in 2021 to reach £247.9 billion (US$301.4 billion). Cerulli expects the sector to see continued strong growth, reaching £614.0 billion by 2026 and doubling its share of the local retirement industry’s total assets to 19%.
The main source of this growth in assets is likely come from large pension funds turning to fiduciary managers, rather than from an increased number of small and mid-sized pension funds doing so. Larger pension funds’ trustees tend to have more input in defining the investment strategy and strategic asset allocation. With smaller pension funds, fiduciary managers are usually tasked with more discretion.
