Senior Account Manager

Position Overview

Senior Account Manager

The position’s primary role is to drive subscription-based and consulting business among prospects and support Cerulli’s existing client base with superior service and support. Based in Boston, the position reports directly to the Director, Account Management U.S.

Successful candidates for this position are independent, motivated, creative, and enthusiastic individuals interested in contributing to a global market research business by forging relationships with senior executives at the world’s largest asset managers and broker/dealers. The role requires a sense of entrepreneurialism, curiosity, innovation, and an underlying interest in asset management analysis.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Sales

  • Meet or exceed standards of outbound calls and meetings to current and prospective clients to promote our products and consulting capabilities
  • Prospect for business via other warm lead lists (subscription renewals, recipients of targeted marketing campaigns, client login requests, research sample requests)
  • Provide regular reporting to management on progress and successes
  • Identify custom research and consulting opportunities through content-led discussions (both with and without Cerulli research analysts), regular client meetings, conferences, and other events; work toward conversion of discussions into project proposals, and the close of custom and consulting agreements

Relationship Management & Client Service

  • Maintain and grow a book of business by providing regular, proactive support
  • Respond to client questions and inquiries related to Cerulli research, including intermediating access to Cerulli’s team of analysts
  • Turn client questions into relationship-building and business development opportunities
  • Increase spend level of existing client base through careful analysis of clients’ businesses, decision makers, and Cerulli products
  • Map out key champions at your accounts and establish relationships and drive research use amongst those champions
  • Present progress and raise related issues at daily business development meetings
  • Conduct regular face-to-face meetings, conference calls, and other touchpoints to foster relationships, support, and use of Cerulli research
  • Recognize and develop client research needs into custom research and consulting proposals
  • Provide regular client feedback related to Cerulli’s product and service offerings

Travel

  • Meet with clients and prospects by setting regular client rotations and schedules
  • Establish well-defined goals and follow-up strategies for revenue-generating outcomes
  • Attend relevant industry conferences
  • Expected travel: 25% to 40%

Research Content

  • Deliver the Cerulli Associates story, including research methodologies, product line, and service overview
  • Discuss general trends affecting the asset management product and distribution industry
  • Establish familiarity with the industry landscape (i.e., asset manager types and product offerings, broker/dealer landscape and product offerings, and related industries), and Cerulli’s competition in the research and consulting industry

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in the asset/wealth management industry, preferably in a role related to the distribution of asset management products (e.g., sales, product management, relationship management, market research, or business analysis).
  • Proven phone-based and in-person sales and client management skills
  • Superior communication skills
  • Positive, proactive attitude
  • Ability and eagerness to engage clients and prospects and think creatively to address client needs
  • Ability to interact with senior level executives
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and contact management systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus, but not required)
  • Ability to work in small company team environment

Associate Analyst

Product Development

Position Overview

Associate Analyst, Product Development

Position Overview:

This analyst position is based in the Boston office, and it reports into the Associate Director responsible for investment product development research. The position’s primary role is to support lead research analysts and collaborate with other members on the product development team to provide quantitative analytical support and written commentary for CA’s retail and institutional asset management research and publishing needs. The position will also work as needed with other practice members across various research teams such as institutional and intermediary.

Successful candidates for this position are hardworking, persistent, enthusiastic, and analytical individuals with a passion for financial services industry research and analysis.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist lead research analysts in the development and analysis of proprietary surveys, interfacing with Survey Analyst to administer surveys and chart results
• Help develop focused research panels, calling and emailing targeted participants to increase survey participation
• Support lead research analysts by scheduling research calls and meetings with senior executives, and type detailed notes from the calls
• Collaborate with other analysts across Cerulli practices on monthly and quarterly publications. Duties include data‐gathering, analysis, chart creation and assembly, and writing commentary
• Work with Morningstar Direct, eVestment, Preqin as well as other third-party databases
• Identify opportunities to improve Cerulli’s current data aggregation and analysis processes
• Help develop and maintain relationships with financial institutions, investment asset managers, industry trade associations, third‐party data vendors, and government agencies
• Propose and develop new analyses to expand Cerulli’s proprietary research

Qualifications:

• 0-3 years’ experience in financial services, preferably in a product strategy, product development, product management, research, or analytical role; Understanding of retail and/or institutional distribution channels is helpful
• Knowledge of both mutual funds and exchange‐traded funds (ETF) vehicles. Preferred knowledge of other investment vehicles (e.g., collective investment trusts, private commingled funds, interval funds, etc.)
• Understanding of active and passive investment philosophies and processes
• Outstanding project and time management skills, and strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi‐task and to change course quickly as needed
• Proficient in Excel; able to manipulate, and analyze sizeable amounts of data
• Aptitude for synthesizing research, identifying trends, and providing commentary on relevant industry issues
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Interest in financial‐services‐related market research with an eye toward developing into a Cerulli Report writer
• Interest in cultivating a network of industry contacts for research purposes
• Capacity to respond productively to feedback and make ongoing improvements to approach and process
• Preference is for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics or English/journalism

Position Overview

Associate Analyst, Retirement Markets

The position is based in the Boston office and focuses on research related to the U.S. retirement market. This role reports into the Senior Analyst responsible for Retirement research.

The Retirement practice focuses on the defined contribution (DC) and individual retirement account (IRA) markets, including:

  • Sizing of the 401(k) market and other DC plan types
  • Investment product distribution and adoption trends in the DC market
  • Key stakeholders within the DC market including target-date managers, defined contribution investment-only (DCIO) asset managers, DC recordkeepers, plan sponsors, and plan advisors/consultants
  • Investor behaviors such as advisor usage, IRA rollovers, and trends in financial wellness

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in the development and execution of surveys, coordinating with the Survey Analyst to administer surveys, chart results, and deliver benchmarking results
  • Aggregate information from proprietary surveys as well as third-party sources and review data for accuracy in order to summarize results, synthesize quantitative insights, and identify key trends
  • Develop focused research panels and contact targeted participants to drive engagement with Cerulli’s research
  • Schedule and attend research discussions with senior executives in the industry to build subject-matter expertise
  • Capture detailed notes from research discussions, internal meetings, and client engagements
  • Collaborate with other analysts in the Retirement practice to develop monthly and quarterly publications, contributing both quantitative exhibits and written commentary
  • Participate in research efforts by identifying topics of interest and providing input throughout the report cycle

Qualifications:

  • 0–3 years’ experience in financial services, preferably in an asset management, investment consulting, or wealth management; understanding of U.S. retirement markets is helpful
  • Superior analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to manage large data sets
  • Fundamental investment acumen
  • Proficient in Excel (e.g., pivot tables and VLOOKUPS) and comfortable working with a variety of analytical/statistical software
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Effective time management skills, able to meet deadlines and coordinate schedules across multiple practices and concurrent projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to respond productively to feedback and make ongoing improvements to work process
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Candidates should be adaptable, self-motivated, curious, and seek to build deep industry expertise
  • Preference is for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, statistics, or related field
