Asia’s wealth segment is flourishing, providing fertile ground for the asset management industry to tap into. The growing high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-HNW segment has become a strategic focus for private banks and wealth managers as they look to increase revenues sourced from this segment amid an uncertain outlook over the global economic environment and market conditions.
As investors scout for better returns, they continue to look for equity exposure, especially in long-term thematic sectors; alternatives; and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment strategies.
According to our research, 63% of private banks indicate that their clients are looking to raise allocation to private equity and private debt. Among family offices, 70% believe their clients are interested in increasing their exposure to real estate, and 60% are in favor of raising allocations to private equity. Cerulli’s survey of Asia ex-Japan managers shows a similar trend. Managers see interest in private equity and private debt strategies among family office clients (as chosen by 76% and 67%, respectively, of those polled). New energy-themed funds, chosen by a majority of managers (80%), are also sought by family offices.
Cerulli’s latest report, Asian Distribution Dynamics 2022: Gearing Up for Emerging Opportunities, examines the rising HNW and ultra-HNW segment in the region and explores how managers can meet the dynamic and rapidly evolving needs of family office clients.
